Amazon Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ Review
Amazon has done well with low cost tablets, with the release of the new Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ it has in my opinion, re-defined of what we have come to expect from low costing tablets. The Kindle Fire HD 8.9″ boasts an excellent sharp display and produces very good audio quality. Prices starting at £229 with 16GB is going to be hard to beat.
Display
The Kindle Fire HD 8.9” has a stunning display, with a 1920×1200 and 254ppi (pixels per inch) it’s more than adequate for displaying text, photos, and HD movies. It’s even able to perform well in direct sunlight due to some clever anti-glare technology.
Sound
With many tablet’s I have used or seen in the past, one thing that always disappoints is the quality of sound. This however is not the case with Kindle Fire HD 8.9” due to it’s customised Dolby audio, dual stereo speakers. The sound quality is crisp and sharp, which is very welcome in my opinion.
Wi-fi
With the many streaming apps available, a solid Wi-Fi connection is an absolute must. Thankfully the Kindle Fire HD packs dual band, dual-antenna Wi-Fi. It’s cutting edge and providing your broadband connection is stable and fast, streaming HD will be a breeze.
Processor & Storage
The Kindle Fire HD sports a powerful CPU and graphics at it’s centre, making gaming a pleasurable experience. The games load quickly because of some fine tuning to the graphics pipeline and the touch software. This also affects the scrolling operations plus software commands. Kindle Fire HD 8.9” has 16gb and 32gb internal storage options, perfect for storing all your books, music, movies, games. I’d always recommend the larger option due to the storage demands of HD movies for example, which can weight in at 2gb per movie!
The Kindle Fire HD 8.9” is great in so many ways, here are some of my highlights –
- Screen sharing with HDMI out, perfect for viewing photo’s on larger screens.
- Bluetooth support – great for bluetooth headphones and other accessories.
- E-Mail is great to use, compatible with the majority of e-mail providers.
- The Interface is easy to use, finding recent content couldn’t be simpler.
- I can use Facebook, Twitter and Spotify!
- Skype is available via the Amazon App Store.
- It’s not that heavy and feels great to hold, coming in just under 600grams.
Summary: If your wanting an excellent tablet at an excellent price that's stuffed with great features, I wouldn't look anywhere else.
